A Doll Inspired Gift for My Child

The memories I have from Christmas as a child are filled with joy and anticipation of wondering what gifts Santa had put my name on and placed haphazardly among the gifts for my family. Melodious echoes of conversations with my parents and siblings of what gifts to get for family members and close friends are also a part of those earlier memories.

For me the Christmas Season continues to be filled with happy anticipation. Searching for the perfect gifts for friends, families, and coworkers is inspiring and really gets the holiday spirit jumping.

Writing a letter to Santa is a tradition that continues with my own family. It is sometimes surprising to see what your child will ask Santa for when the wish list is for Santa's eyes only. Toys and games always make the list to Santa. Once in a while a new baby sister and once a new baby brother was added to the list. A piano was added to my child's list one year because she wanted to have one just like her mother's.

I continue to compose a list, although mine no longer is addressed to Mr.Claus at the North Pole. It remains in my head, safe and secure from curious young eyes.

A Hobby for Life

Doll collecting is a hobby that can be enjoyed by anyone at any age. Although dolls are traditionally associated with girls and there was a cottage industry of women who crafted dolls men have been a part of crafting and collecting dolls. A Marque was originally a sculptor who then went on to make several dolls. At auction his dolls have sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

In 1994 Samy Odin and his father, Guido Odin opened the first museum in Paris devoted to antique dolls. It is located a end of a charming alley on the Right Bank, the Muse de la Poupe. The permanent exhibitions in the museum feature historically significant dolls made over a span of two centuries

Museum quality dolls may be on my list for Christmas but I can assure you there will be none under the tree any year soon.

My Dream Career

The perfect gift this year for my child is a Barbie doll from the career theme line. This year Barbie is I Can Be a News Anchor will appropriately be wrapped in newsprint with a large pink bow. The package Barbie arrives in will have a special code that allows internet access to career content in the forms of games, videos, and virtual Barbie makeovers.

The I Can Be line of Barbie dolls allows your child to exercise their imagination and creativity to play the leading role in a dream career of their choice. Barbie silently sends a message to boys and girls that girls can choose any career they want. Barbie the News Anchor will require some fashionable changes of outfits and accessories. There may even be a dream car that will boost Barbie's news ratings.

You Are Invited

After Christmas when the kids are on vacation we have a child's party. The theme of the party is the same every year. It is My Favorite Gift. Each child brings their favorite gift to the party. Stories and toys are shared. We have games, refreshments, and lots of fun. Children bring their parents and so the adults get to share in the joy of each child's perfect holiday gift and reminisce about our favorite Christmas gifts we received from our parents as children.
